ZONE 4 Between 1957 and 1977, the Mission of Michela Schiff Giorgini, sponsored by the University of Pisa, studied the sanctuaries of Soleb and Sedeinga, located on the left bank of the Nile between the Second and Third Cataracts. These temples were built by Amenhotep, son of Hapu, the architect of the Egyptian king of the XVIII Dynasty, Amenhotep III (1400-1370 BC). At Sedeinga, his wife the queen Tiy is also associated with them.
The study of these sanctuaries is carried on by the French Archaeological Mission of Sedeinga under the direction of Jean Leclant.
The sites of Soleb, Sedeinga and Saï are presented in this section as the fortresses immersed by the Nubia-Nasser Lake. |
