ZONE 5 At the end of the XIX century the construction of the first Aswan dam and its two extensions allow for an exhaustive study of the sanctuaries of Lower Nubia. However, the building of the High Dam threatens all the temples. With the agreement of Unesco, the decision is taken to relocate some of them in three areas between Abu Simbel and Philae (presented in the following thumbnails).
- First group (at 180 km to the south of Aswan): the temples of Amada, Derr and the tomb of Pennut.
- Second group (at 40 km to the south of Aswan): the temples of Wadi es-Sebua, Dakka and Meharraqa.
- Third group (behind the Aswan High Dam): the temple of Kalabsha, the hemi-speos of Beit el Wali and the kiosk of Kertassi. |
